Young people in Medway will have the chance to get creative and learn new skills thanks to a new weekly community initiative.

Rochester-based Paramount Foundation CIC and Safer Kent, a charity dedicated to preventing crime and anti-social behaviour, have joined forces with volunteers from theatre company Pretend People, to get young people to take creative control of a new community video production – A Working Title.

Anyone aged between 15-25 years old and living in the Medway towns interested in music, filmmaking, acting, production or project management can visit the Endeavour Foyer on Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham, every Wednesday to take part in the free initiative.

Bryn Price of Safer Kent said: “We know there are issues that can push people into directions they don’t want to, or shouldn’t go in, with unfortunate consequences – especially among young people.

“By getting creative and working with an organisation like the Paramount Foundation, which runs a series of projects for young and vulnerable residents, we believe we can help make a difference to the people of Medway.”

Matthew Salisbury, Paramount Foundation Manager, added: “A key aim for the Paramount Foundation is to work with partners to provide education and interventions for drugs and alcohol, sexual health, knife crime, gang culture and anti-social behaviour.

“We find creative ways, such as this group, to help local children and vulnerable young people.

“At the Foundation, we think finding a skill or passion in being creative is important and could change the course of someone who is vulnerable to making decisions affecting their future and wellbeing, and that of those around them.”

Sessions take place every Wednesday from 11am–3pm at Endeavour Foyer, Chatham. For more information email info@theparamountfoundation.org, call 01634 733123, or visit wwwtheparamountfoundation.org.uk.
